This program is applicable to all Institutional Buildings to prevent contamination of the City Barrie's drinking water supply.

The owner of the property or building, which currently has a service connection to the City's water supply, is responsible for the installation of the premise isolation backflow prevention devices. 

The premise isolation backflow device must be installed by a plumbing contractor that has the required education, training and documentation as listed in Schedule 6 of Municipal Code 851.

The premise isolation device(s) must be installed immediately after the City's water meter and its by-pass. No connections are allowed between the water meter/by-pass and the premise isolation backflow device.

In order to ensure the proper operation of a premise isolation backflow prevention device, it must be tested upon installation, repair, relocation or replacement, and at least once a year thereafter. The backflow device is a mechanical assembly that has internal seals, springs, and moving parts that are subject to fouling, wear, or fatigue. Therefore all premise isolation backflow prevention devices need to be tested at least annually and the reports submitted to the town of Barrie.
